Welcome to Saint Martin de Porres School!

Saint Martin de Porres has been serving the North Philadelphia community for over 100 years.  Prior to 1993, we were known as Saint Columba School.  As a result of Archdiocesan mergers, we were renamed.  Our School currently serves 400 students in kindergarten through grade eight.

We believe that each student is a child of God.  We endeavor to create an atmosphere where each child is supported and empowered to be his or her best!  Our primary mission is a spiritual one, embracing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and living and acting with Catholic Christian values.  While most of our students are non-Catholic, we still have a powerful spiritual orientation.  Students have a have daily religious instruction along with a rigorous academic program.  We follow the course of study required by the State of Pennsylvania and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  At the present time we are 100% African-American in the student body.  We incorporate these cultural values at every opportunity.

Students are trained in peer mediation skills and daily make an "Imani" Peace Pledge, which heightens our pledge of non-violence. 
 

Some Activities we offer are: Social Justice Committee, Student Council, Chess, Cheerleading, Model U.N., CYO Sports, and Peer Mediation Skills.

For the 2006 -2007 school year, we have become a "BEACON SCHOOL" along with the City of Philadelphia and Catholic Social Services.  This program offers a multitude of services for children and their families at an extremely nominal fee ($10 weekly) or free.  We have after care, family preservation and youth activities until 8:30PM and on Saturdays.

For 2006-2007 school year our theme is "We are Called to be One."  In our school we stress the things which unite us and make each of us stronger!  We welcome your support in partnering with us - In every conceivable way - in order to empower and prepare our young people and their families for the futures!
